The Bank of Millbrook has long served as a cornerstone of the Millbrook community, providing excellence in banking services to area residents and businesses since 1891. Now, in the 21st Century, we strive to answer the complete breadth of your financial requirements by combining a thoroughly modern banking approach with strong, local ties to our community.

Trust and Investment Services fills a role that goes beyond consumer banking products and lending, by assisting you with the more complex financial and planning issues we all face.
We emphasize the importance of understanding your financial goals and work with individuals, not-for-profits and individual trustees to help manage and administer financial assets in accordance with stated goals and objectives.

As Dutchess County’s only locally-based trust and investment institution, we combine considerable expertise and a sound, conservative approach with a strong knowledge of our clients and this community. We know that relationships matter, and we work as your ally. We make ourselves accessible to you when you need us, and we value your feedback and communications in assisting you to meet your goals.

We invite you to contact our Trust Officer, Kathryn M. Hurley, at 845-677-4266, for a confidential discussion of your goals.

Investment Management…Sound, Personalized

We begin by listening to you, the client. Do you want to help protect your principal and have it grow for your security, or for something to leave your loved ones? Do you want to ensure that you have a regular income from your portfolio? We’ll start by hearing what you have to say, and then let you know what we can do for you.

As our client, you have a choice of two investment management types for your account with us:

Discretionary: The bank is appointed as your investment manager, to handle your assets in accordance with predetermined investment objectives that have been selected by you. This service provides for active management of your investments and also includes income collection, record keeping, and income tax reporting.

Non-Discretionary: Provides for all of the above services, but allows you to make the final decision on buying and selling securities in your account.

Diversification is key to long-term growth and we diversify across asset classes such as equities, bonds, money market investments, and then again within the classes themselves. Diversifying risk is critical and a mix of stocks and bonds makes sense; stocks for growth and bonds for income and to temper the volatility of stocks.

We purchase research from top-tier firms like Northern Trust Corporation (Nasdaq: NTRS); founded in 1889, and continually growing domestically and internationally. We insist on purchasing the best research from unbiased sources, because we want to know that we can trust the information we have when we make the determination to invest in a company. We like to know that the companies we invest in, on your behalf, have sound financials, strong management teams and room to grow.

Estate and Trust Administration

The benefits of enlisting a corporate trustee or executor include expertise, continuity and impartiality. We work with you to ensure that your estate or trust is carefully managed, protected and delivered according to your wishes and the law.

Executor: The Bank can be appointed to act as your Executor under your Will. The complex job of administering an estate requires expertise and attention to detail. As your Executor, the Bank will devote its expertise to administer the Estate carefully and to carry out the duties of the Executor. These duties include the collection and valuation of all of the assets in the estate, determination and payment of all estate and income tax, distribution of the estate in accordance with the terms of the Will and an accounting of the transactions in the estate during the administration.

Trustee: The Bank can be appointed to act as Trustee/Co-Trustee under the Will or as Trustee under the Trust Agreement. As a corporate trustee, the Bank handles the administration of the Trust, such as Trust tax returns, Court Accountings, Discretionary Distributions, in accordance with the terms of the document, the investments, accounting and income tax returns. The responsibilities of a trustee are numerous and complex, and require impartiality. Hiring a corporate Trustee provides the expertise needed to administer a Trust properly, as well as the oversight and guidance of Bank Management and the Trust and Investment Committee.

Customized wealth solutions…Trusts can be a valuable wealth management tool at a wide range of income levels. Too many people hear the word “trust” and think trust fund. Trusts can assure that assets are administered properly and they can save you time, money and worry. Kathryn (Kate) Hurley is a certified trust advisor. The added benefits to you of having a corporate trustee, in addition to expertise, include knowing that the institution will always be there for the life of the trust to manage it in an unbiased manner.
